SANCA HORIZON CENTRE BOKSBURG has been in existence since 1961 and has been established for the treatment of alcoholism. In 1989 Horizon Centre expanded to treatment of other chemical substances than alcohol. During the ’90s the need for specialized treatment for teenagers resulted in a very successful out-patient program for teenagers to be established.  In 1999 The Bridge Adolescent In-Patient Facility for 8 boys and 4 girls was opened. Services in Greater Benoni Ekurhuleni has been allocated to Horizon Centre in 1996 and since then community-based services have been expanded to medical out-patient treatment, prevention and awareness services in the community and community development.  To date Horizon Centre established services in Wattville, Daveyton, and Etwatwa.

Horizon Centre is a full member of SANCA National Office.

The SANCA Horizon team consists of a multidisciplinary group of experts to help patients meet the challenges of recovery and treatment. Treatment programs are complemented by dynamic/professional and caring staff members. The staff of SANCA Horizon Centre is specialists in the treatment for chemical substance abuse. The team of social workers has combined expertise of nearly 80 years in the field of substance abuse and the professional nurses an average of 60 years experience. Our complete team of administrative staff, social workers, professional nurses, medical doctors, psychologists and psychiatrists, caregivers and other support staff – all strive towards providing a therapeutic environment inducive to the recovery process.

“The BRIDGE” is an adolescent in-patient rehabilitation centre, managed by SANCA Horizon –Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Centre. This facility accommodates teenagers between the ages of 14 and 18 years and is the only centre in Gauteng that also accommodates teenage girls. All teenagers are treated separately from adults. Our programmes are specifically designed for teenagers and include a 6-week in-patient and a 10-week out-patient option.

 

All Treatment Programs include: 24-hour medical care, specialised medical assistance during the detoxification process, medical lectures and health education, psycho-social group therapy, individual therapy, development of life skills, the involvement of families and significant others, as well as after-care.

 

Our Multi-Professional team assists teenagers to grow beyond addiction, and offer life skills training to enable them to regain control of their lives. The Horizon staff members & multi-professional team members are specialists in the treatment of chemical substance abuse. From the medical doctor, psychologist, psychiatrist, administrative staff, social workers, professional nurses, caregivers, social auxiliary workers to the support staff – all strive towards providing a therapeutic environment, conducive to the recovery process. Our therapy focuses on: Intrinsic motivation, responsibility and consequences, identifying with addiction, self-development, life skills training, relapse prevention, exposure to an alternative healthy lifestyle, building of family relationships, changing of attitude & lifestyle, sexuality & HIV, adolescent development stages, goal setting, structure within the family, discipline within the family,  and creativeness.

GENERAL INFORMATION FOR IN-PATIENT TREATMENT

 

Assessment:

Appointments must be scheduled during office hours Monday to Friday.  All persons assessed must be accompanied by a family member or significant other.  This is to ensure the best treatment option available for the individual. Phone 011 917 5015 to book an appointment.

 

Admission: 

Can only be booked after assessment. Bookings are essential and can be made by either phoning +27 (011) 917 5015, or send an email to info@horizonclinic.org.  The staff will provide you with all the information you require, including details of the cost involved.

Admission hours Monday to Fridays between 8h30 and 15h00

 

 


Visitors: 

No visitors for the first three days of treatment.

 

Monday and Tuesday * No visiting hours           

Wednesday and Thursday * 16H00 - 19H00

Friday * 15H00 – 18H00

Weekends: Saturdays * 13H00 - 17H00

                    Sundays * 13H00 - 17H00

Public Holidays * 13H00 - 17H00

 

All visitors are required to sign the visitor’s book on arrival and departure.

No service users are allowed beyond reception area when saying good-bye to visitors.

 

Service users are not allowed to receive visitors other than agreed and signed for

If friends or family are known to be users of chemical substances they will not be allowed to visit at all.

Service users are not allowed to leave with fellow- service users on discharge.

 

NO cell phones are allowed to be used on the premises by service users, parents or visitors.

Only the person on gate duty will be allowed near the gate.

No visiting by ex-service users allowed.

 

Telephone calls:

No cellphones allowed.

No phone calls to be made.

Families may be contacted telephonically by social worker if necessary.

 

Times to receive Phone calls:      

Saturday * 10h00 – 12h00

Sunday * 10h00 – 12h00

Weekdays Monday to Friday * 15h30 – 18h00

Weekend Pass:

No weekend pass allowed.

Cell Phones:

The use of Cell phones is strictly prohibited.  It is important to realize that service users are in stages of withdrawal and that they will be tempted to make telephone calls that could cause problems to themselves or others.

Visitors may not share cellphones with service users.

Family Support Groups:

Attendance of all groups and lectures is compulsory.

Visitors are invited to attend the Family Group on Wednesday at 18h00.  Please confirm time and date with social worker / sister.

Service users are not allowed to have visitors or make telephone calls during group sessions.

No smoking or disrespectful behavior will be permitted during group sessions.

Group times and venues are displayed on the notice board, it is service users' own responsibility to attend groups on time.

 

 


Aftercare:

Recovery is a process. It happens in stages over time. Long term recovery requires continuous management of the recovery process for the person in recovery to stay focused, and motivated to work on lifestyle changes, healthy habits, effective problem solving and development of life skills.

 

Aftercare is strongly recommended and friends and family should encourage and assist service users with aftercare for at least one year after initial treatment.  Family groups are run on Wednesday @ 18h00, please contact the social worker.
